Devotions - The Man and The Birds

As we are nearing Good Friday, sometimes we might wonder, why God would dwell with us in the form of man? After all He is God! Why dwell with us man? Well I recently read a story and it spoke very clearly why God did what He did. It titled The Man and The Birds.

Now the man to whom I'm going to introduce you was not a scrooge, he was a kind, decent, mostly good man. Generous to his family, upright in his dealings with other men. But he just didn't believe all that incarnation stuff which the churches proclaim at Christmas Time. It just didn't make sense and he was too honest to pretend otherwise. He just couldn't swallow the Jesus Story, about God coming to Earth as a man. "I'm truly sorry to distress you," he told his wife, "but I'm not going with you to church this Christmas Eve." He said he'd feel like a hypocrite. That he'd much rather just stay at home, but that he would wait up for them. And so he stayed and they went to the midnight service.

Shortly after the family drove away in the car, snow began to fall. He went to the window to watch the flurries getting heavier and heavier and then went back to his fireside chair and began to read his newspaper. Minutes later he was startled by a thudding sound. Then another, and then another. Sort of a thump or a thud. At first he thought someone must be throwing snowballs against his living room window. But when he went to the front door to investigate he found a flock of birds huddled miserably in the snow. They'd been caught in the storm and, in a desperate search for shelter, had tried to fly through his large landscape window.

Well, he couldn't let the poor creatures lie there and freeze, so he remembered the barn where his children stabled their pony. That would provide a warm shelter, if he could direct the birds to it. Quickly he put on a coat, galoshes, tramped through the deepening snow to the barn. He opened the doors wide and turned on a light, but the birds did not come in. He figured food would entice them in. So he hurried back to the house, fetched breadcrumbs, sprinkled them on the snow, making a trail to the yellow-lighted wide-open doorway of the stable. But to his dismay, the birds ignored the breadcrumbs, and continued to flap around helplessly in the snow. He tried catching them. He tried shooing them into the barn by walking around them waving his arms. Instead, they scattered in every direction, except into the warm, lighted barn.

And then, he realized, that they were afraid of him. To them, he reasoned, I am a strange and terrifying creature. If only I could think of some way to let them know that they can trust me. That I am not trying to hurt them, but to help them. But how? Because any move he made tended to frighten them, confuse them. They just would not follow. They would not be led or shooed because they feared him. "If only I could be a bird," he thought to himself, "and mingle with them and speak their language. Then I could tell them not to be afraid. Then I could show them the way to safety ... to the safe warm barn. But I would have to be one of them so they could see, and hear and understand my intention."

Now we understand.

Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for what you have done. Thank you for sending your Son down to earth to dwell with us, showing and guiding us to where is best for us. Lord we pray that as we understand your intention, you will reveal more of your purpose for us. We bless your holy name. In Jesus more precious name we pray.
Amen

Devotions - 7 Wonders Of The World

One day in a school, the students were studying the Seven Wonders of the World. At the end of the lesson, the students were asked to list what they considered to be the Seven Wonders of the World. Though there was some disagreement, the following received the most votes:
1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. The
Taj Mahal in India
3. The Grand Canyon in Arizona
4. The Panama Canal
5. The Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student, a quiet girl, hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The quiet girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many." The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help."
The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:
1. to See...
2. to Taste...
3. to Smell...
4. to Hear...
5. to Feel...
6. to Laugh...
7. and to Love.

You see, God had given us the most wonderful things in this world but we often miss them. When we open our eyes, we are able to enjoy the beauty and wonders of the world. When we smell, the fragrance of the earth fills us. We laugh when we feel joy. A we are able to love and be loved. These are indeed the many wonders that God had created. But guess what, the most perfect and wonderful creation that God did, is You!

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:14

Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for teaching us the wonders of your works. Father help us to continue to understand your love for us. Help us Lord to appreciate the simplest things around us. Father thanking You for creating me the way I am. I know that I am Your proudest creation. Thank You Lord. In Jesus most precious name.
Amen.

Devotions - God Always Provide

Here's another story that I heard. Its titled God Always Provide.

There was once a widow who live alone in a neighbourhood. She was not doing well since her husband pass on but she has faith in God and prays everyday. One day, while on her knees, she prayed. "Lord, you are the God that provide. You are the husband of all widow. Lord please provide for my daily meals. Thank you Lord. Amen."

Her neighbour who does not believe in God was just passing heard her pray through the window. Thinking to himself, "why does she always pray? God never answer any prayers!" Just then he came up with an evil plan to trick the widow. He bought a weeks or ration and placed it outside the widow's door, ring the door bell and went to hide.

The widow opened the door and saw the pile food and no one around. Immidiately she went to her knees and start thanking God! The neighbour jump out of his hiding place and started laughting at the widow. " Haha you think its God who gave you the food! No! I bought it and place them on your door step! And you thank God? Haha!"

After the widow heard him, she went back into prayer. "Thank you Lord for the food. And you even made the devil pay for it."

My friends, God always provide for ALL our need and He can use ANYONE! Remember when ever you have a need in your life, just go to the Lord in prayer and He will answer!

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6
"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him." 1 John 14-15

Let us pray:

Thank You Lord for being our provider. Lord help us always look onto you for our need. Help us Lord pray and submit our request onto you and Lord answer our prayers according to your will. This we pray in Jesus most precious name.
Amen

Devotions - No Longer A Slave To Sin

Its been a very long time since I last posted an entry. I am now starting a new series, based on stories that I heard that teaches us a lot about God. I would like to share my first story titled, No Longer A Slave To Sin

There was once this little boy, Thomas, who lived with his sister, Sally, in their grandparents' house. One day, Thomas was out playing with his sling shot. Try as he may, he could never get a shot on target. As he walk back home, he saw grandma's duck at the front porch. Thinking to himself, 'I could never hit it', he took aim and pulled the trigger. The shot landed directly on the duck and kill it on the spot. Out of fear,Thomas tried to bury the duck. However Sally who was walking by found out about it.

That day after dinner, grandma ask Sally to help clean up the dishes. Immediately Sally turned to Thomas and asked him instead. "Why me?" Thomas questioned. "Remember the duck?" Sally replied. Night after night the same scenario repeated and finally after two weeks, Thomas had enough. He walked up to grandma and told her all about the duck.

"My dear, I knew all about the duck. I saw it all from the window that day and I have already forgiven you since then. I just want to know how long do you want to be a slave to Sally."

How long do you want to be a slave? God have already forgiven us of our sin. When Jesus died on the cross, He took away our sin and cleanse us with His precious blood. But we do not recognise it nor have we accepted it and we are still living as slave to sin.
However, it is written: "For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been freed from sin." Romans 6:6-7. "For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace." Romans 6:14

Why did WE CHOOSE to be slave to sin after what Christ have done on the cross? Today you are free because the blood of the Lamb and the grace of God have broken the power of sin and set you free. You are no longer a slave to sin
!

Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your grace and forgiveness. Thank you for setting us free by the works of the cross. Help us Lord to accept the truth that we are no longer slaves to sin but by the power of Christ, we are free. Lord help us live each day thanking you for your freedom. Thank you Lord. In Jesus most precious name we pray.
Amen.
