Devotions - Big Headed

Dear Brothers and Sisters, do you know what big headed Christian are? To put it simply, they are Christian that knows the word of God inside out, able to quote verses from the Bible and they read a lot of Christian books. It is always good to know the word of God well but I believe that having a good relationship with God is much more important then knowledge.

However, today I am not going to share about having a good relationship with God but instead, I am going to share about knowing God's word. Recently, my cell group is going back to remembering basic Bible verses such as John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8, Romans 10:17 and many more. You might ask why we need to memories Bible verses when it is the Holy Spirit which guilds us to pray, preach and minister. Yes, I do not deny that the Holy Spirit will lead us in such time because it is written:

"But they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke." Acts 6:10

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will." Romans 8:26-27

However, God also uses what we know and have to minister to others. If we know more of God's word, it will be easier for Him to use us. So how then can I be use if I know God's word? To answer this, we have to go back to one of my favorite verse, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16.

I personally felt one of the most important reasons we have to memories verses is so that we can claim those verses in time of need. For example, how do we know that we are saved? "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9. How do we know that God really love us? "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16.

Life as a Christian is not always great. The devil is actively trying to deceive us by telling us lies and putting doubts into our mind , "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" 1 Peter 5:8, but we must learn to claim God words and reject those lies "Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings." 1 Peter 5:9. So in anything, lean back on God's word and claim them because God's word last forever. "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." Matthew 24:35

Let us pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your word. Thank you for teaching us the importance of your word. Lord help us to read and memories them in our heart so that we can use your words to edify and help each other. Holy Spirit continue to guild us, continue to intercede for us as you know the very need of our heart. Help us learn of your word each day and may we claim your word and truth in the darkest time of our life. Bless us with knowledge but also let us draw near to you Lord. We thank you Lord. In Jesus most precious name we pray.
Amen.
